How do we see the work of the gospel? Do we expect to see the Lord work through the power of His gospel unto the salvation of many sinners? Or are we somehow surprised whenever anyone repents and believes in Christ?
Do we see it as slim pickings, or as a bountiful harvest?
We know how the Lord Jesus sees it. Matthew 9:36-38 says,
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Jesus Himself has assured us that the harvest is plentiful!
Do we have the eyes of faith to see the harvest that way?
Do we believe Him at His word enough to get out into the harvest field wherever He has placed us? Do we see the harvest as so big that we pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out more workers to labor beside us?
